INTERVIEW - FRITZ BOHM - INDIE HORROR DIRECTOR - WILDLING

A salute to everyone reading this interview. We've been utterly lucky having extraordinaries indie filmmakers aorund here lately, filmmakers shooting movies with micro, low and other not so low budget, I mean, diversity is what it is, that way so that people (I expect newbie filmmakers) who read them could be able to understand the vicissitudes a movie production has and what they may face while shooting their own, that is the goal.

Following with the above statement, today's interviewee is a Germany filmmaker, who spent most of his childhood in USA: FRITZ BOHM. As I wrote, he was born in Germany an there would live his first interactions with art, the feeling of creating something, from the moment he watched David Lynch's Eraserhead, the curio instinct erupted out of him and all begun. We talked about his latest work: WILDLING in 2018, a movie that revolves around the transformation both physical and personal that a teenager experiment spicy up with folklore story tale. The movie had wonderful ensemble cast: Bel Powley, Liv Tyler and Brad Dourif (The Exorcist III) among others. Entertainment Weekly described it as "Wildling is a clever, unsettling horror debut". The movie was distributed by IFC Midnight in the USA.

INTERVIEW - JASON WILLIAM LEE - INDIE HORROR DIRECTOR - FUNHOUSE

A salute to everyone reading this interview. I had the chance to have a talk with JASON WILLIAM LEE, he's from Vancouver, Canada. We went throught the reasons he had to pursue a career into the filmmaking world, and as he said, he felt it when you he realized he could memorize the lines of his favorite movies rather than algebra, summing it up haha. JASON came onto stage in 2016 with the shocking movie THE EVIL IN US, but the theme if this interview is his latest movie FUNHOUSE, a movie about 8 celebrities around the globe that are invited to participate in a reality show hoping to earn 5 millions of dollars, but soon they realize that the price to pay to obtain that money would be with their lives...

FUNHOUSE movie had a theater and VOD released on MAY 28, 2021 in the USA by magnet releasing. and was released in Russia in 2019. The moviemaking process is always a winding road and while you walk that road, variety of feelings are arising constantly, happiness, restlessness, uncertainty, joyness and so others. The trick is be capable to canalize all of them and using them as a channel to concrete the movie, don't let dominate by them, by contrast, use them.

INTERVIEW - SAVVAS CHRISTOU - INDIE HORROR DIRECTOR - CAPTIVE

 

A salute to everyone reading this interview. Today we'd like to introduce you to SAVVAS CHRISTOUS. He is from Cyprus, the passion for the arts came from very young thanks to the reflex he had from his family, in other words, the love art is from inheritance right. Graduated from Aristoteleio University in Thessaloniki in fine arts, later on decided to shoot short films with friends and hone his directorial skills. IN 2020 was premiered his first feature film, the psychological-horror-thriller CAPTIVE, also known as “KATHERINE’S LULLABY”. The story centers on a struggling teenager trying to escape from her abusive father and decide to do it with the help of her boyfriend wandering in the woods, in a moment they decide to split up, but she lose her boyfriend and in her search to find him finds a cabin to ask for him, an old man hello her and from that moment her nightmares starts.

The movie had a north america and worldwide release by Vertical Entertainment and  High Octane. INTERVIEW - JESS NORVISGAARD - INDIE HORROR DIRECTOR - THE GOOD THINGS DEVILS DO

 

A salute to everyone reading this interview. First things first, I hope everyone had a fantastic new year day celebration and this 2022 brings you materialize the projects you aspire to. I had taken days off but this year the blog comes with a lot of new interesting interviews from a lots of indie filmmakers layers all level of budgets, all of them with problems to solve, doubts to beat and 

 a bunch of advice that newbie filmmakers out there could hold onto and set them out in practice for their upcoming project.

I had the chance to talk with JESS NORVISGAARD, from Asheville, NC. This indie filmmaker had his feature film debut in 2020 with the vampire creature - horror "THE GOOD THINGS DEVILS DO" as director and writer. The movies plot could be summed up as: "Richard and his daughter Mouse have one last clandestine job before he can retire which he desperately wants to do so that he can work on being the father he never was.  But they hit the wrong house, and it all goes upside down as the house is besieged by an ancient vampire hellbent on revenge" by the own director words. The movie condense an 80's style along with Argento composition with vivid colors that let the movie shine for itself.

JESS told us how the movie got green lit to be shooted, how the idea came out off ground and got jumped on the screen, the path he walked so his vision could be watched for millions of people, basically the dream of every wannabe-director. INTERVIEW - PAUL CATALANOTTO - INDIE HORROR DIRECTOR - THE THING INSIDE US

 

A salute to everyone reading this interview. First things first, I hope each of the person reading this reading this interview has had a merry christmas with your loved ones. OK, now regariding our subject, I want to indtroduce you people today's interviewee: PAUL CATALANOTTO, an indie filmmaker, director of films such as Proof Of The Devil, Scrilege and his latest work THE THING INSIDE US, which is the matter of our talk. As I always write,  this blog and these interviews specifically seeks to provide valuable info to beginners or budding filmmakers from people who have lived the experience to make a movie and know what things to prioritize and what not when making a limited budget film in all its differentes phases.

PAUL fits in this goal because he knows perfectly those things, in each of his movies he has experienced situations that has forced him to dig deep to look for creative solutions. His latest film has been made with no crew, only he and his actors and all this came to surface because of the suggestion of one of his students, ah, I had not said yet, PAUL teaches film production at the university, so in one of his classes that challenge turned into a  goal for his career and the result was THE THING INSIDE US, a movie that tells the story of a married couple that during the strike of a strange disease in the world, the wife experiment a "sleepwalking" condition and doctors can't help her, so the husband decide to document her condition through video record all her steps... What he finds could not only destroy his relationship, but the world itself.

The movie had its VOD and DIGITAL release on October 19, 2021 by High Octane Pictures. PAUL let me talk with him about the obstacles he faced off during the making of, the doubt moments that arise in every film production, how to focus on the goals, he gave us advice regarding how to shoot a movie with no crew and with no money practically. INTERVIEW - TIMOTHY COVELL / CHRISTINA BEHNKE - INDIE HORROR FILMMAKERS - BLOOD CONSCIOUS

Today's interviewees are a couple f indie filmmakers who decided to embark into the sinuous, mysterious, sometimes bleak, but always interesting and gratifying world of making a feature film, and they are TIMOTHY COVELL and CHRISTINA BEHNKE, this year was premiered their first feature film called BLOOD CONSCIOUS. TIMOTHY as the director and writer and CHRISTINA as the producer, they together brought in a riveting horror film about a brother, sister and her fiancé are planning to spend some time at their parent's lakeside cottage, but when arrived to the cottage they find their parents and neighbours haven been murdered, the killer reached them out but he claims he had to kill them because they were demons, is it true or not? This movie is "What happens after a typically horror movie ends". The movie had the THEATRICAL, DIGITAL and VOD release on August 20, 2021 and the DVD release on September 28, 2021 distributed by Dark Sky Films.

TIMOTHY and CHRISTINA were open to discuss and talk about the hard journey they had making the movie  and watch it "on screen" finally, I tried to take the opportunity and ask about everything in terms of making of and emotions flourish during the movie making, the setbacks, the way the destroyed their obstacles and how others indie filmmakers can read their experiences and take in out of the advice.

INTERVIEW - MAXI CONTENTI - INDIE HORROR DIRECTOR - THE LAST MATINEE (AL MORIR A LA MATINÉE)

A salute to everyone reading this interview. To Return to the 90's when cinemas were the recint where our imagination could fly off watching the renaissance of sci fi movies or be frightened by the monsters or killers from horror movies and sometimes drop out a shy tear watching the drama or comedy stories, all that and more represented the cinemas back in the 90's, time where THE LAST MATINEE takes place, a story about that, vivid experiences in a cinema, but in this particular movie that "vivid" experiences gets another level, a too real level. The movies tells the story of a hooded serial killer that gets in a cinema and inside of it unleashes all his evil and commit a serie of murders all this meanwhile a group of teenagers trying to escape from him.

This uruguayan Movie is directed by MAXI CONTENTI, and I had the chance to cha with him about the behind of the movie making, the methods, the techniques, the obstacles, the disillusions, the happiness, the doubts, all those "normal" sensations when approaching the building up of a movie. MAXI CONTENTI is from uruguay and from a very young age he knew he wanted to be in the film industry and become a great movie director.

INTERVIEW - LEVIN GARBISCH - INDIE HORROR FILMMAKER - MIRANDA VEIL

 

A salute to everyone reading this interview. I had the opportunity to chat with LEVIN GARBISCH, director and writer of "MIRANDA VEIL" his latest filmmaking work, an mystery - horror film that tells the story of a wannabe serial killer in search of his first victim but stumbles upon with a woman that apparently can't die... from that, the movie develops over a mystery relationship with both of them. INTERVIEW - AARON FJELLMAN - INDIE HORROR FILMMAKER - CAGED

 

A salute to everyone reading this interview. Grew up in the suburbs of Los Angeles, got a sweet candy taste from Horror movies when he was just a boy roaming around in the local video store, he wanted to shoot a high-level budgeted indie horror film first, but the stumbings lead him out to his feature film directorial debut and word-worthy film: "CAGED". I am talking about AARON FJELLMAN.

"CAGED" is the story of a man who is wrongly convicted for the murder of his wife, locked in his cell he must fight against his inner demons and a prison guard unchaining delusional passes in his mind. You can check out the note HERE.

We had a well-worthy chat about the in and outs to try to shoot his first feature film, why he decides to shoot it in certain particular  style, the whys, those little bit goldy details about why a filmmaker does what he does on his movie, That information my friends is bread freshly baked, there are filmmakers that are reserved about giving extra details, just the enough, but there are others that draw you the entire landscape, one of them is AARON. Widely he exposed to us why made this movie, with this particular plot, with this particular mood, how he was blessed to have that amazing cast and crew, the handicaps found during all the stages to create a movie, I mean, you have gold at your disposal, is up to you to take it.
